Puget Sound Scaper Library Project

Announcing the Puget Sound Scaper Library Project!

One of the most effective, lasting ways to share Farscape with the world is to make sure the DVD’s are available in public libraries. Library patrons often browse for ‘new finds’ and are more open to trying new things since they are borrowing materials for free. Placing Farscape in the public library system means that every single DVD has the potential to reach an audience of thousands!

Launching Pad
In 2004, the WatchFarscape.com Library Project donated four Season One DVD boxsets of Farscape to the King County Library System (KCLS). A donation offer was made to the Seattle Public Library as well but they do not accept donations (everything they are given, they sell for revenue). Early in 2005, a PSS’er donated four copies of FS: the Peacekeeper Wars. The objective of the PSS Library Project is to continue the work of WFS by getting the rest of Farscape onto library shelves.

Phase One
Phase One of the PSS Library Project is to complete the King County Library System’s DVD collection of Farscape. Later phases may include other library systems in the PNW.

Why KCLS?

  • They already have Seasons 1-2 and PKW;
  • KCLS is the second busiest library system in the United States (over 17.1M items circulated last year); and
  • Over 90% of King County residents have and regularly use their library card (that’s upwards of 1.5M people)
  • What You Can Do:

    1. Donate a few credits to the PSS Library fund:

  • Donate via Paypal (by credit card or paypal account):
  • If you would prefer to send a check or money order instead, email us for details:
  • Here is our current priority list for purchases:

    Starburst Ed. 4-35 @ $16.61$83.05

Wanna help but you only have pocket lint to share? Not to worry, there’s more to do!

    2. Purchase Requests

  • Step 1: Get a Library Card!

  • If you need help finding your public library, ask us:

King County Library System: you are eligible for a KCLS card if you live in an area served by KCLS (King County and beyond) or if you belong to another library system with a reciprocal borrowing agreement. For more information, read here.

Seattle Public Library System: you are eligible for a SPL card if you live, work or own property within the SPL service area (Seattle, Bothell, and most of King County) or if you belong to a system with a reciprocal borrowing agreement. For more information, read here.

  • Step 2: Find out if your Library has Farscape

  • Search your library’s catalog or inquire with library staff to find out what they already have of Farscape.

  • Step 3: Ask them to buy Farscape

  • It’s just that simple. And it’s free! If your library doesn’t have something you want, you can make a purchase request. Not all requests are filled but if enough people ask for something, it becomes desirable for the library collection. Lists of items KCLS and SPL are currently lacking are posted below.

    For Example:
The Seattle Public Library does not take donations (anything given to them is sold for library fundraising). Therefore if something is to be placed in their collection, they have to know their patrons want it. That’s where you come in. In response to requests for Farscape DVDs, SPL ordered between 9-11 sets of each season (& PKW). So it can be done, we can scape the planet one library system at a time!

    3. Print and distribute bookmarks and flyers:

Create some bookmarks or flyers for Farscape and ask the library staff if you can leave some at the circulation desk. You could also leave them inside the books you return to the library for other patrons to find. Also, post flyers in public areas and mention in the text that Farscape is available at your local library (see list here).

We hope to have some bookmark and flyer templates here for you to use. Check back later for updates.
